چکیده

Abstract Bed bugs (Hemiptera: Cimicidae) are common, hematophagous ectoparasites of humans and other animals experiencing an international resurgence. Cimicids have been suspected in the transmission many disease agents, including Bartonella species; however, any kind has not yet confirmed natural cycles. spp. transmitted by a variety arthropods, fleas, lice, sand flies, but potential role bed remains unknown. In this study, we used artificial membrane to feed rabbit blood, either infected or uninfected with henselae Regnery et al. (Alphaproteobacteria: Bartonellaceae) two groups adult Cimex lectularius L. After 2 wks, presence B. gut salivary glands was assessed via PCR electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. Although 4 10 bug guts showed evidence henselae, were unable visually detect gland TEM images.

Group living accelerates bed bug (Hemiptera: Cimicidae) development.

For many insect species, group living provides physiological and behavioral benefits, including faster development. Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius L.) live in aggregations composed of eggs, nymphs, and adults of various ages. Our aim was to determine whether bed bug nymphs reared in groups develop faster than solitary nymphs. We reared first instars either in isolation or in groups from hatching t...

Accuracy of Trained Canines for Detecting Bed Bugs (Hemiptera: Cimicidae).

Detection of low-level bed bug, Cimex lectularius L. (Hemiptera: Cimicidae), infestations is essential for early intervention, confirming eradication of infestations, and reducing the spread of bed bugs. Despite the importance of detection, few effective tools and methods exist for detecting low numbers of bed bugs. Scent dogs were developed as a tool for detecting bed bugs in recent years. How...

Repellency of selected chemicals against the bed bug (Hemiptera: Cimicidae).

In recent years, the common bed bug, Cimex lectularius L. (Hemiptera: Cimicidae), became a major public health concern in urban communities. Bed bugs are notoriously difficult to control, and their bites are not tolerated by most people. The public has an urgent need for materials and methods to reduce bed bug introduction and bites during work, travel, or sleep. A repellent product will help a...

Resurgence of Bed Bugs (hemiptera: Cimicidae) in Mainland China

Bed bugs were common pests worldwide before World War II. They were almost completely eradicated in many countries by good hygienic conditions and application of insecticides. These pests are currently reemerging in many developed countries. We conducted a literature review and an internet search using the key word, bed bugs, to evaluate the status of bed bug resurgence in China. The results sh...

Multiplex polymerase chain reaction diagnostics of bed bug (Hemiptera: Cimicidae).

Cimex lectularius L. (Hemiptera: Cimicidae) is a widespread blood feeding pest of humans around the world, including North America, and has recently undergone a resurgence. A molecular diagnostic technique applying multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was developed to distinguish bed bug eggs, leg fragments, and degraded samples from other arthropods that frequently occur in human dwelling...
